It should work on your system and the launcher isn't doing anything out of the ordinary. Tested and works great! I'm using the 2. The only thing I did different is that I installed the newer version of glary utilities.
Same thing with another beta portapp that I use, Opera Usb Portable. It says for version 9. There are several dialog boxes in the modules section Disk Cleaner, Shortcuts Fixer, Disk Analysis, Duplicate Files Finder, Empty Folders Finder where you can select which drives to scan but really it's a tool similar to CCleaner that allows you to work on the host system.
I noticed the laundher doesn't seem to save preferences. For example modules selected for one click maintenance. This is based on the author's portable version and it writes the default values to the registry on startup instead of reading what's already there.
Which is the reason why it doesn't save the skin setting either. Some things are saved to the INI but not many and that is one of them. All very strange. The original version writes heavily to the system so I think we just have to accept it for what it is. Was fishing around in the registry when I came across a few entries for Glary.
Thought I'd bring it to your attention. Thanks for the screenshot. That's the key the app writes to. If it's still there when the portable version isn't running then it'll belong to the local install. If you've uninstalled that, then you can delete those keys.
Maybe export them to a backup first? Remember to close then reopen regedit when you're checking this stuff out as it doesn't refresh properly otherwise. I actually haven't installed the local version on this pc. I think it may have been caused from using individual modules. Most likely the registry defragmenter as this requires a system reboot. Can't reproduce at the moment. Not really sure about that one, to be honest. At a guess, as it's referencing the installer rather than the app, I don't think there's too much to worry about.
It's not appearing here, although there are various others things under that key, portable and otherwise. No installers though Too many lonely hearts in the real world Too many bridges you can burn Too many tables you can't turn Don't wanna live my life in the real world.
May I ask if anyone has had a problem installing this program? I have tried several times with the most recent installer and receive an error message that the downloaded file of the Glary utilities is not valid and wondered if anyone else had had this problem. I've been using this without issue. Recently Glary updated and that may have killed the launcher. I'll test now.
EDIT: Confirmed. I suspect it is caused by Glary updating their app and it affecting the live installer through a version check. I find not great that one packs a program which is already in the PortableApps. Nevertheless, it would be much better to provide a real Launcher, because also of the Launcher of Glary Utilities tracks leave in the Registry.
The additional file download adds another 5. Sitting here on a broadband connection, this is really immaterial to me. For others, though, it might make a difference between when they download the installer, and when they actually run the installer. I'm not sure how you'd want to present the information differently, but it seems like it should apply to all of the live installers, and thus may require an official policy decision.
Eventually, the numbers end up on the big red download button, so that should be a consideration, too. It is really appreciated. The figures quoted refer to disk space whereas the "additional file download" is just bandwidth. The file is downloaded to the system's TEMP folder but is deleted when the installer closes as I understand it.
I see what you're saying though. Glad you're finding them useful. First run, I clicked no but GUP didnt start. Second run, I clicked yes but GUP still failed to start. I think this is an excellent addition to PAP and look forward to a fix and hopefully the official release. Is it this one you're using? I don't know the program but, as it's normal for GUP to be added to startup on every run and removed on exit , 'Yes' would be the correct answer.
All I can suggest at the moment is a clean install and make sure it's not registered to startup sounds like you already did that with Autoruns. Get back and let me know if it's still not working.
It works fine I used it for several cleanup duties but it wont start from the PA Menu or directly from the launcher. The confusing thing for me, not hard, is that if you change the. I think thats something you are more capable of figuring this out than me, jus thought try to help. Does the same thing happen when a PA. It's not really important for me to know but was just curious.
It may be useful for others to know. There's no problem starting from PA. I really want to help you here, but I need more info. I re-installed as you requested. When I start GlaryUtilities, first I get the black and white dev splash screen then startup monitor asks if I want to allow GUP to startup with windows to which I reply 'No', and thats it, nothing else happens.
At least nothing visual. Looking at the launcher, I can't see any reason why Glary Utilities would fail to run if startup was disabled. As you see the dev test splash, can I assume that it's now starting OK from the menu and directly from the launcher? And I'm presuming StartupMonitor let's the app load even if it blocks startup? There is a bug in my post install code so I've uploaded DT2 which should fix it but, again, I can't see how it would cause your problem.
Could you download the new version and test again, just to make sure? I just re-read one of my previous comments and thought it was a little ambiguous so, just to clarify, when I said "a clean install and make sure it's not registered to startup", I meant that you should do both of those before running the reinstalled app.
Then when you do run it, you should let it get added to startup in case you use the Registry Defrag option, which requires a reboot. It'll be removed from startup on a normal exit. Hope that's clear, I'm confusing my self now LOL. If it still doesn't work, is it possible for you to disable Startup Monitor temporarily, just to try and narrow down what's going on?
Re: DT2. Anyway, sounds like you've done all the usual tests but there are a couple more things we could try -. You'll have to clean them up manually let me know if you need any help with that. If it works, get back to me.
Again, if you just open and close to check it, it'll only leave those two things on the machine. Good luck, hope we can get this sorted. Indeed I have already tried and I did say above, which was the reason for my question as to whether or not starting the. I'll check that and let you know. Just tried updating and getting error about valid install. Same error as previous, see here.
I guess there is a new version. I think I may have figured out the problem, though it was suggested by someone on the Revo Uninstaller post. Could this be the cause of GUP not starting?
Tried installing this update but the online installer doesnt seem to want to work somethings getting corrupted, at least thats the message i get. Tried the Paf launcher with both the. Just so I can check my manual install is correct. Yes, that's the problem. I've reconfigured the launcher to run as admin without any user intervention so you should be OK to use it with the R34MOD.
The reason your install is failing is because it's been updated new version up top. Anyway, I recommend you trash your current GlaryUtilitiesPortable folder and install this latest one. Hopefully we've cracked it.
Let me know. Loving this app, seems to be working great on XP admin rights. It's like a Swiss army knife of system cleanup. I'd love to see this become a PA. Always good to get some positve feedback. Thanks for testing. Do you have to have admin rights to run Glary? I'm pretty sure I've run it on XP under an account without them but I suppose it depends on what you're trying to "clean" or do.
EDIT: got it, and I have been using the Portable version direct from the publisher site which works ok. Is that the version you have used for the paf launcher?
Last time I checked, it only saved a few settings in an INI and the regstry ones were overwritten every time on startup. Has that changed? Sounds like it has, I'll check it out. EDIT1: Hmm I can save the settings but the app is still overwrting the registry on startup. Was the skin setting saved for you in the version you were using? I confess, stupid mistake by me, there are two "data" folders that need moving and I was only moving one of them.
Uploading now Well done prapper All seems fine now. Thanks for your hard work. I have a question, though I suspect it's to do with the app rather than the launcher, but each time I launch I get a request from StartupManager asking whether I should allow GUP to start with windows. Is there any way to disable this? I expect it needs an option in the app itself, yes? The strange thing is that the system startup option isnt ticked??? If you do reboot, the launcher will start again with Windows minus all the backing up stuff and then clean up when you exit the app and remove itself from startup.
Otherwise files and regkeys will be left on the system. I'm not sure why the original portable version even allows this and many other things! They're disabled by the app so I can't do anything to change that.
I don't know why, because some of the 'helper' apps that GU uses remain minimized in the tray when you exit them see the release notes for As I perused the entries to be deleted, I saw several that had working links, and in another case I saw an empty folder that is necessary, as it is used by Windows XP for its own purpose.
Several glaring examples of a potential disaster was when it wanted to delete a registry entry that had a "bad" link. There was never an option to "fix" the entry, rather it only deleted it. It appears that the strength of Glary Utilities is its registry fixer, but IMHO you would do better to pass it up for now and wait for it to mature a bit.
I missed this the last time GOTD offered it, and now here it is again. Sometimes the vendor oops'es and you still can get upgrades. It's the vendors choice. Don't worry. Glary Utilities with its many advanced functions helps a lot in understanding what is going on in your computer!
The Register Cleaner and Tracks Eraser are my favourites. A shortcut on the taskbar for Tracks Eraser would be handy. This new version has a fully programmable 1-click maintenance function which is even better. I have used this progam with Win XP for about 6 month without any problem! I was looking for a good Registry Cleaner because I recently got a new computer and the old one I had I had lost on my old computer!
Found lots of errors and appartently fixed them all. Will find out with time but so far I really like this! Thanks GOTD!!! Great timing on this!!! Looking forward to getting more great things for my new comp! Appears to be loadd properly - Pro version and good forever. What's up with the desktop icon, though? It's just a ghost plus the Defender subicon in the lower right hand corner. Did this happen to everybody else?
Seeing the program offered again today is a most wonderful thing!! Some comments suggest that Glary will allow downloaders of this offering to update in future and the program will remain permanently functional - in direct contradiction to GOTD rule 2 - No Free Upgrades.
As for manually updating the former version, some say they tried but couldn't update, some say they didn't try because of GOTD rule 2, , and some say they could and did upgrade without the program reverting to a temporary, trial status I'm confused. Does someone actually know which scenario is correct? I'm a little sensitive about this issue. I've downloaded several GOTD programs that auto-updated themselves and as a result reverted to temporary status, and stopped functioning two weeks later.
There's a discussion in the GOTD forums. As a small business owner, I consider that bad business. If updating, auto or manual, is included with a GOTD program, it should be made clear. If a GOTD program auto-updates itself and in dong so, reverts to temporary trial status, that should also be made clear.
In addition, instruction on how to prevent that from happening should be provided. Otherwise, it's really just bait-and-switch, which is fraudulent.
A versatile set of utilities--many user customizable options a very big plus. The modules I tested worked very well. Disk Cleaner found and removed the temporary files I chose to remove without a hitch.
Shortcut Fixer found four non-working links. One of these was to a jpg pic I refer to frequently, so technically it was identified correctly as a non-executable link, though I would not want to remove it. I did not use the Registry Cleaner--A possibly minimal gain in Windows startup time but potentially disastrous results.
Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel 2. I used the previous version and it kept deleting all the files in my start bar without me doing a thing. Sometimes this rendered my programs useless as i couldnt find another. It is probably a great program, but be careful how you use it. I won't be using it again, losing the start bar is awful!
Just wondering what is the differance between this and Advanced WindowsCare. They only do minimul to enhance pc usage Period but its enough on a MB or less machine to help somewhat, at least periodically anyway Just been trying this on Vista Home Premium and there seems to be a glaring bug in it's parsing of file paths in the startup manager tool.
The startup manager reports the path as an invalid entry! Be careful not to blindly let it or make it delete such perfectly normal entries just because it doesn't know windows magic names for key admin relocatable folders. This company is from wich country? I didn't found it. Glary Utilities is one of the best tools out there in my opinion, specially the free version. Expecially if you don't care for the "1-click maintenance" option.
Personally I rather use each module at a time, so I know what I'm deleting. The "Adware and Spyware" clean up is part of the Registry Cleaner, so I don't think it does much more than remove registry entries. You'd have to remove the files by hand or using an anti spyware program. I think it's only really usefull if one of those programs miss something in the registry. Try it, you'll be pleasantly surprised! Other than other programs it really makes a difference.
It's becoming really, really, really annoying having to opt out every time. Your already in my favorites and one time is enough. Just as an fyi for others having trouble activating, I couldn't get past the trial version screen until after running the activate.
I downloaded Glary Utilities last time it was available. It was a pretty useful tool, seemed to do everything the other all-around-system-tools do.
However, one day it completely erased all of my start menu links. So, if you are going to use a program like this Nice one guys. Had this on my old pc from the previous giveaway.
It was the non pro version which at that point you had to pay for, however, I just reallised that today and this has been a well recieved program. I started using this program in the form of Absolute Un-installer in We have such a big difference in our experiences with this program that I wonder if you have a problem outside of "Glary Utilities" itself. I too am using Windows XP Please note my post Too many people myself included trashed windows with this app.
It cost me a new PC and the previous 'top end" system is still down. This app, is used without Qualified PC Technical Experience is like a loaded gun in the hands of a 5 year old. Just go back in the archives and find the last time aoffered and READ the posts if you doubt me. Big fat foot in mouth. And it COST those of us many hours of grief. Be careful This was pretty dangerous before, I doubt anything's changed.
Even if it has I wouldn't touch with a bargepole after seeing how poor it was before. I lost wordpad. So I dl'd this with some trepidation. Using this Pro version very carefully, I am completely pleased with the results. User Rating: Rate It! No Virus. No Spyware. No Bundle. No Adware. Glary Utilities is designed for both novice and professionals.
For novice, all work can be done with just 1 or 2 clicks, while for professionals, abundant options are available.
