Every one is correct. Use the Serial straight thru cable, you may need a gender bender to plug into the T. Do yourself a favor and get a copy of ProComm for your terminal emulator. Power on. You should see a quick self test after about 15 seconds. The default login is: Manager Notice the uppercase M If that does not work, there is a way to clear the password, but it requires you have another T that you know the password of, it MUST have the same version of software that your password locked T is running, and you will need two stacking modules, and one cable to connect the stacking modules.
Then power up the other T. After you log into the T that you know the password of you should "eventually" see a menu, and one of the choices will be to reset the configuration on all the switches in the stack. Select that and wait for the magic to happen. Power cycle the previously password locked T and you should be able to log into it with just "Manager" or what ever username and password your known switch has. Good day Michael. We have 5 or so switches that are having issues and I am told that the new firmware would help but I don't have maintenance to download the files. That looks like the software updates, not the firmware. Do you know what I can get the firmware from?
I am using the terminology that software loaded into eeprom on the switch is 'Firmware', that 'Software' is loaded and executed on the computer, and I have no idea what you will call software resident on your computer that downloads to the switch each time it boots. Lets make up 'Loadware'. All of this is 'Loadware' if the switch is very old or 'Firmware' if the switch is at all modern.
Not to thread jack or anything, but does cisco have a site to download firmware for switches? OMG, Jimbo, you are my hero!
